i'm a huge hiphop head so there are tons of albums I could pick. we obviously have decent NYC boom bap albums from the 90s like Nas: Illmatic, Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers, and Biggie: Ready to Die. They have cool beats and the rappers rap with the very good flows. They rap about the struggle in the Brooklyn and Bronx, and they depict it very well, much better then the Beastie Brothers. it's cool albums, definitely, but they are not the best in the whole genre in the 90s and 80s.
From the 80s I think it's better hip hop from the NYC then the 90s. We have classic dance party jams like Planet Rock which had banging drum machine 808 patterns with electronica samples (Kraftwerk), a true classic. The Beestie Bros. weren't that good, but they had some good songs from 80s like Egg Man, Rhymin and Stealin and the amazing fun B-Boy Bouillabaisse. It is also worth mentioning Boogie Down Productions and Public Enemy, two great groups, better than Beast Boys.
There is also some good hip hop on the West Side (califronia), but not as much as in the NYC (east side). DJ Shadow had some pretty cool beats, and the Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre classic Nuthin but a G Thang is very cool, but not that much else, 2pac and NWA isn't that good.
I do really like the group Attwenger and they made a cool album in the 90s called Luft. It has very fun beats, with cool rhymes, but i would say that they perfect their sound on their 2002 album, Sun.
I dont really like hip hop from the 90s or 80s but there is better hip hop from the 2000s and the 2010s.
